NDH Medical
Develops Novel Extrusion Process
St. Petersburg, FL – January 6, 2004
Medical device contract
manufacturer NDH Medical, Inc. has developed a novel extrusion process
to produce unique catheter tubing for a new line of catheters. The
extrusion process produces multi-lumen catheter tubing with varying
wall thicknesses. Applications for patents on the process have been
applied for in the United States and foreign countries.
NDH
Medical utilized the new process for the development of the first
product utilizing the FlatCath™ Hemodialysis Catheter technology under
a development agreement with FlatCath, L.L.C. of Georgia. “FlatCath™
embodies proprietary technology and design elements that are intended
to improve catheter patency and longevity while minimizing vessel
trauma and thrombus formation. Large, multi-lumen catheters are
regularly placed into the venous system to perform hemodialysis,
infusion or aspiration. Catheter placement often creates turbulence
and sluggish blood flow resulting in a myriad of patient-related
health concerns. The FlatCath™ technology facilitates a significantly
reduced cross-sectional catheter profile within the blood vessel when
the catheter is not in use. Consequently, this exceptional design
reduces the likelihood of catheter-based complications resulting from
thrombus formation,” commented Steven Hvozda, Executive Vice
President, Hatch Medical, L.L.C.
FlatCath, L.L.C. is a joint venture between medical device incubator
and technology brokerage firm, Hatch Medical, L.L.C. and physician
inventor, Aubrey Palestrant, M.D. Dr. Palestrant is the inventor of
the novel vascular access technology platform and several other
inventions related to medical practice. He predicts that, “These
innovative catheters will have a major impact on what is now
considered to be the standard of care in vascular access catheter
technology.”
Hatch Medical previously announced the licensing of the products to
Medical Devices Technologies, Inc. for global marketing. Under a
separate agreement NDH Medical, Inc. has agreed to be the exclusive
manufacturer of the hemodialysis catheters for Medical Device
Technologies, Inc.
